Travessia das Letras

The 2nd. children’s festival of the Portuguese language will take place between the 16th and 22nd of May at the Templo da Poesia/Parque dos Poetas, in Oeiras

In the bicentennial of the Independence of Brazil, national children’s literature is the starting point in the Travessia das Letras for a celebration that involves Lusophone artists.

Other arts such as cinema, theatre, music and cuisine are also protagonists of the event that will receive artists, personalities and references from Brazilian culture such as Pedro Luis, Daniel Munduruku, Roberto Bontempo and Miriam Freeland, Ciça Fittipaldi and Teatro Tablado.

Saci Pererê, Macunaíma, Teatro Tablado, Brazilian and indigenous rhythms, cuisine, history, cordel literature, all these characters and themes will be gathered from the 16th of May at the 2nd edition of Travessia das Letras – Portuguese Language Children’s Festival that will take place between the 16th and 22nd of May at the Templo da Poesia/Parque dos Poetas, in the municipality of Oeiras, Portugal.

The event has free admission, however registration for the workshops, for the general public and students from public and private schools, must be made via the email travessiadasletras2022@gmail.com. From Monday to Friday, in addition to the traditional audience, pre-scheduled students from schools with Oeiras Educa (www.oeiraseduca.pt) will be present. They will be students from Kindergarten to Secondary Education in the municipal network of Oeiras / PT.

Travessia was born from the desire to bring together cultures that share the Portuguese language, the official language in countries such as Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor, which spread across 4 continents, bring together more than 250 million people who speak the Portuguese language.

Several Portuguese writers who will also narrate the Brazilian works will receive their Brazilian brothers in the celebration that has as its mascot, since the 2019 edition, Polvo Zé, created by the Brazilian writer and illustrator, Mariana Massarani. Among the Portuguese who will participate in the Travessia through their works are Luisa Decla Soares, Mario de Carvalho, Inês Fonseca Santos, João Maio Pinto, in addition to journalist Rita Pimenta, among other guests.

The event, whose 1st edition took place in 2019, is sponsored by the Municipality of Oeiras in Portugal and the municipality of Oeiras, in Piauí, sister cities. With just under 40 thousand inhabitants, Oeiras in Piauí was identified by UNESCO, in 2021, as a case of innovative educational management, which motivated the Organization to promote a survey to investigate the reasons for the success of the municipality: “Good Management Practices in Municipal Education: the case of Oeiras (PI)”.

And because it is aligned with the mandate of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in addition to having convergence with the Organization’s guidelines and principles in the fields of culture, social development and global citizenship, the crossing has support from the UNESCO Representation in Brazil, and institutional support from the Mission of Brazil in the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), the National Reading Plan (PNL2027) and the School Libraries Network (RBE), the latter two Portuguese organizations.

Its realization in Portugal suggests the opposite path to that taken by the language, promoting exchange, stimulating curiosity, stimulating creativity and expanding the imagination through the playful and dreamlike universe of children’s literature”, observes the creator of the children’s party, Claudia Pinheiro, by Dois Um, a Portuguese-Brazilian company, which has already brought to Portugal other great projects such as “Portuguese Architecture in the Traço de Lúcio Costa”, assembled in Lisbon in 2013, the year of Brazil in Portugal.

The program will have, this time, at the request of the Municipality of Oeiras – Portugal, an emphasis on Brazil on account of the Bicentennial of the Independence of Brazil. We are going to expand the Portuguese Language Festival beyond activities related to literature, adding other artistic expressions such as children’s theater, animation cinema and music, always with children’s literature as a starting point, celebrating great Brazilian names who will interact with relevant names. from Portugal”, concludes Cláudia.

Among the Brazilian artists and attractions present, there will be the Theater Workshop of the Play Pluf, o Fantasminha, by Maria Clara Machado (honoured for her centenary), given by Cacá Mourthé and Ricardo Kosovki; Daniel Munduruku, who received an honourable mention of the Literature Prize for Children and Young People on the Issue of Tolerance of the UN (United Nations); Brazilian rhythm workshop, with Pedro Luis, who from “Carinhoso”, one of the most important songs in the work of the maestro, instrumentalist and composer Pixinguinha, will build a children’s percussive activity, using one of the simplest and most ingenious Brazilian rhythms, the march -rancho, in addition to the staging of the book “Ideias para adiar o fim do nundo”, by Ailton Krenak, with the performance of actors Roberto Bomtempo and Miriam Freeland, among others.

We will narrate stories and dramatized readings of several Brazilian children’s and youth classics”, anticipates the journalist, writer and curator of Travessia, Luciana Savaget – author of “Our stories are your stories” – who will participate in a debate with Stefania de Brito, Portuguese writer -Brazilian, author of “Uma Aventura Hospitalar”.
