Trevobox: the phenomenon of lost parcels arrives in Greater Porto
Portuguese company is making an impact by selling sealed packages by weight that never reach their destination.
Trevobox, a company from the Algarve, is making an impact in Portugal with a business model that has been gaining popularity in other European countries over the last few years: the bulk sale of lost parcels. After several events in the country’s South, the brand arrives in Greater Porto with a pop-up store in Parque Nascente, Rio Tinto (Gondomar).
At the root of the business are orders that never reached their destination, for different reasons, and that were destined for incineration. To mitigate the problem, the products began to be sold to the public, with an exciting condiment: the surprise.
“We don’t know what’s inside the packages, and neither do the customers. Orders are sold by weight, starting at 2.49 euros per 100 grams, and we have already had some memorable moments, such as when a lady said she would win a cell phone, and that is exactly what happened. Every customer who opens an order can find something unexpected, and that is part of the charm of Trevobox”, highlights the brand’s founder, Miguel Puech.
The Trevobox pop-up store will be open to the public in Parque Nascente until the end of March, replicating the success of the company’s previous initiatives, which was founded in November 2024, presenting itself to the public at events such as the Feira de São Martinho in Portimão, the Feira Franca in Albufeira and the Off Market 125, before opening a temporary space in Faro.
In four months, the concept gradually gained the interest of the Portuguese public, replicating a reality that was already consolidated throughout Europe. The Algarve company’s supply network is mostly international, guaranteeing diverse batches of orders discarded by shippers, generally coming from the Asian market.
Unclaimed lots can contain electronics, clothing, toys, utensils and much more, without offering a guarantee of total satisfaction for customers: “Basically, this is like Christmas. Everyone gets a gift, they don’t know what’s inside, as a rule it even exceeds expectations, but the opposite can happen, due to a matter of taste or expectation. There is only one extremely important rule: you cannot open or peek at the packages so as not to ruin other people’s experience.”
The temporary store in the shopping center in Rio Tinto (Gondomar), open since the beginning of March, has generated considerable queues, justifying the brand’s investment. “The reception has been fantastic! In the Algarve, we had already felt great enthusiasm for the concept, and now, in Greater Porto, all expectations are being exceeded. The public’s curiosity has generated queues and an atmosphere of discovery that transforms each day at the pop-up into a special experience”, says Miguel Puech.
“Our strategy for 2025 is to expand the concept to other cities in Portugal, consolidating our presence in the country, always in the pop-up format, which allows us to test new markets and keep the experience dynamic and exclusive. Furthermore, we are planning our first internationalization, taking Trevobox to new markets in Europe”, concludes the company’s founder.
