Tribeca Festival Lisbon announces Ava DuVernay, Edie Falco, Veronica Falcón, Ed Westick

The festival organisers have revealed much of their lineup. New international names have been confirmed, many talks with international and national stars, and numerous live podcasts, such as “Humor à Primeira Vista” (Humour at First Sight) by Gustavo Carvalho with Guilherme Geirinhas, or “Generação 90” (Generation 90) by Júlia Palha.

The Tribeca Festival Lisbon announced much of its lineup today, and topping the list of new additions is the confirmation of four major international names who will be in Lisbon between October 30th and November 1st.

The new additions include actress Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie and The Sopranos), director, producer, and screenwriter Ava DuVernay (Selma and When They See Us), actress Veronica Falcón (Ozark and Queen of the South), and actor Ed Westick (who is part of the main cast of the series Sandokan: The Pirate Prince, also showing at the Tribeca Festival Lisboa, but became popular through the series Gossip Girl).

These big names join the lineup of international talent already confirmed, such as Giancarlo Esposito, Meg Ryan, Kim Cattrall, and Julian Schnabel. A stellar cast will be part of the program for the second edition of the Tribeca Festival Lisboa.

On the Lisboa Stage by MEO – where the big conversations take place – actress Kim Cattrall will host an unmissable conversation with actress and director Daniela Ruah, titled “No Fixed Address: A Life in Global Storytelling,” about how two professionals in the audiovisual industry find success and professional happiness far from their home countries.

Actors Giancarlo Esposito, Albano Jerónimo, and Edie Falco will join us for an exclusive conversation titled “The Weight of a Character,” which seeks to understand the process of portraying and building complex characters that often require profound transformations (physical and psychological).

One of the most anticipated moments of the festival will be the unprecedented conversation between communicator Catarina Furtado and actress Meg Ryan. “In My Own Words: Meg Ryan on Image, Identity, and Reinvention” will allow you to see Meg Ryan as we’ve never seen her before, in an in-depth analysis of her career, legacy, and how the aging process works in front of the camera and, therefore, in plain sight.

In addition to these and other conversations with international casts, the festival program also includes several events with national casts, such as “Rabo de Peixe: Unpacking The Phenomenon of The Portuguese Series” with Augusto Fraga, Joaquim de Almeida, Afonso Pimentel, and Helena Caldeira, “Tug-of-war between Political Correctness and Cancel Culture” with Ricardo Araújo Pereira, Daniel Oliveira, José Maria Pimentel, and Ricardo Costa, and “Creativity across TV, Comedy, and Fiction” with Augusto Fraga and César Mourão, among others.

The Auditorium by Vilamoura stage, the venue for intimate conversations, will feature discussions on television, theater, and literature, with the sole goal of making this second edition the most comprehensive and industry-focused. Laura Dutra, Rodrigo Guedes de Carvalho, Patrícia Tavares, Isabel Abreu, Sandra Faria, and Henrique Raposo are among the confirmed participants for these sessions.

Podcasts continue to be a strong presence at the Tribeca Festival Lisbon. From October 30th to November 1st, on the Studio by Sword stage, festivalgoers can enjoy live sessions of podcasts such as The Heart & Hustle of Portugal (by Tony Gonçalves), Voz de Cama (by Ana Markl and Tânia Graça), Geração 90 (by Júlia Palha), Debaixo da Língua (by Rui Maria Pêgo), O Homem Que Comia Tudo (by Ricardo Dias Felner), and several others, which can be found on the festival website.

To round out the film program, three new films have been announced: All We Cannot See, by Alberto Arvelo; If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, a comedy-drama by Mary Bronstein with a stellar cast; and an absolutely unmissable debut: Eleanor the Great, Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut.

The organisers announced that Tribeca Talks & Podcasts day passes, which provide access to all talks at the Lisboa Stage by MEO, The Auditorium by Vilamoura, and The Studio by Sword, have a retail price of €45 and are now available at an early bird price of €36. They can also be purchased on the festival website.
