Tróia Bioblitz 2025 is the stage for citizen science and invites free participation
5 observation themes, with the support of experts in the field of Science
Between April 25 and 27, the Tróia Peninsula will be transformed into an open-air observatory, where fauna and flora can be inventoried and biodiversity discovered: Tróia Bioblitz 2025 is an invitation for each participant to be a scientist for a day and discover species from various taxonomic groups present in diverse environments.
Focused on 5 observation themes – birds, insects, flora, bats and intertidal waters -, Tróia Bioblitz 2025 distributes participants across the Caldeira, dune, pine forest, juniper grove and Sado estuary areas, promoting citizen science and stimulating greater knowledge about the dynamics of interconnection between species in the ecosystems in which they are found.
During the three days, a scientific team composed of experts from the team responsible for environmental monitoring of the Tróia Peninsula, from MARE ULisboa, in conjunction with experts from the (DBA) of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon will guide and monitor the work, in the field and in the technical area, installed so that participants can examine in detail the biological material collected and displayed, and can carry out or monitor less immediate taxonomic determinations.
In addition to involving participants in the creation of a species inventory, the initiative allows for detailed observation of realities as diverse as the intertidal in rocky and sandy-swampy substrates, revealing the flora and habitats of the pine forest and juniper forest, the salt marsh and dune systems, the wading and pine forest avifauna around the Caldeira and the entomofauna.
The working groups will have the Tróia Welcome Centre as their daily meeting point. Participation is free but subject to prior registration via email info@troiaresort.pt
