Turismo de Portugal wins World Tourism Organization award with Tourism Schools training project

The World Tourism Organization, the United Nations agency responsible for promoting the sector’s sustainability, has distinguished the Tourism Training Talent’s training project, with the first place in the Innovation and Public Policy category of the 14th edition of the UNWTO awards , for its example of empowering future generations of human resources in the sector.

In a country where tourism is becoming increasingly important in boosting the economy – by October 2017 it received 18,223 million guests, an increase of 8.6% compared to the same period of 2016, and an additional 58,000 jobs were created in the sector – the bet on people (tourists, residents and all collaborate directly in this activity) is one of the priorities of the national tourism strategy (ET27).

This program aims to increase the skills of students and professionals, adapting their training to new trends, opening schools to the community and encouraging entrepreneurship, expanding the role of training to other activities and enhancing careers, promoting work in tourism.
