Twelve Portuguese galleries, ten from Lisbon and two from Porto, will participate in the 38th International Contemporary Art Fair – ARCOmadrid, between February 27 and March 3, the organization announced today.
According to the online site of the IFEMA – Madrid Fair, responsible for the organization of the international contemporary art fair, the Portuguese galleries participate in the general program and in the sections “Dialogues” and “Opening”.
The Portuguese galleries participating in the general program of the fair are from Lisbon, 3 + 1 Contemporary Art, Bruno Múrias, Cristina Guerra, Filomena Soares, Madragoa, Monitor, Pedro Cera and Vera Cortes and, from Porto, will be Nuno Centeno and Quadrado Azul.
In the section “Dialogues” will be the gallery Miguel Nabinho, from Lisbon, and in the “Opening” section, the gallery Francisco Fino, also from Lisbon.
Nine art galleries from Brazil were also selected to take part in the contest, according to the galleries listing available on the online site.
Peru will be in focus at ARCOmadrid 2019, which will have a total of 203 contemporary art galleries from 30 countries, 165 in the general program.
According to a statement released today by IFEMA, the curatorial sections will be “Peru at ARCO”, with a selection of 23 artists from 15 galleries, “dialogues” with 13, and “Opening” with 21.
The event, which has been consolidated with one of the most important contemporary art fairs in Europe, has established itself as an international platform for the Latin American art market, will have about 40 per cent of the galleries presenting one or two artists from different backgrounds and generations.
The 38th International Contemporary Art Fair – ARCOmadrid will have Peru as a special guest country, and a target of a program with various initiatives in museums and art centres in Madrid, throughout the fair.
Of the 70 per cent of international participation, 29 per cent will be dedicated to Latin American artists, according to the organization, with 40 galleries from 12 countries in the region.
Next year, the show will feature 43 new galleries, among them Meyer Riegger, Rodeo, Timothy Taylor and Edward Tyler Nahem.
The representation of Peru at ARCOmadrid will be made with 23 artists from 15 galleries, with the general curator of Sharon Lerner, from the Lima Museum of Art, which will present artists such as Fernando Bryce, Teresa Burga, Sandra Gamarra, Miguel Aguirre, Antonio Páucar, Herbert Rodríguez, Elena Damiani, Ximena Garrido-Lecca, José Vera Matos, Carlos Runcie Tanaka and Rita Ponce de León.
About 300 collectors and 200 professionals from around the world will participate in the ARCO side program, including representatives from the Milan Triennale, Jeu de Paume in Paris, or the High Museum of Art Atlanta.
This year, the Forum of ARCOmadrid will have the participation of Mario Vargas Llosa.
