Twitter launches fact-checking program to combat misinformation

Birdwatch is the name of the new fact verification program on the platform, for now only in the testing phase and with access allowed to a small group of users.

Based on the community itself, called to play the role of guardian of the truth, Birdwatch allows people to identify information shared in tweets that they believe could be misleading. In addition, users can add context notes to help clarify the information.

The program is in a pilot phase in the United States of America and the notes can only be found on a separate website, but Twitter announces that it wants to make these notes visible directly in tweets, globally. To do this, there must first be consensus on the part of a broad and diverse group of users.
