Two Portuguese films awarded at the Rotterdam festival
Filipe Martins’s “Casa de Vidro” and Aya Koretzky’s “Around the World When You Were 30” were honoured today at the Rotterdam International Film Festival in the Netherlands.
‘Casa de Vidro’, which combines documentary and fiction, around a homeless drug addict who lives between a car park of a supermarket and an abandoned car stand in Porto, won the ‘Voices’ award for best short film, worth 2,500 euros, attributed by the public.
‘Casa de Vidro’ was produced by the balleteatro performing arts centre and is currently in competition at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival, starts today in that locality in France.
Filipe Martins is director, teacher and programmer of the Films, Memory and Ethnography Film Festival, in Oporto.
‘Around the world when you were 30,’ a documentary by Japanese director Aya Koretzky, based in Portugal, won the ‘Bright Future’ award for first feature films.
Through a photo archive, the film presents the director’s father’s portrait on a memoir trip through Japan in the 1970s. Last year she joined the DocLisboa festival.
The Rotterdam film festival ends on Sunday, but prizes in the different categories were announced today.
More than two dozen Portuguese films were shown at the festival, including João Vladimiro’s’ Anteu ‘, Ico Costa’s’ Alva’ and Gabriel Abrantes’ and Daniel Schmidtt’s’ Diamantino ‘. Edgar Pêra was entitled to a retrospective.
