An album in the bottle? A beer that’s a record?

The first in a series of expeditions conducted by the independent Portuguese label VIC NIC into the universe of non-conventional formats, ”Synesthesia” is simultaneously an album where Jazz meets Rock, and a craft beer developed in collaboration with the Lovecraft brand.

The album is the result of an improvised dialogue at the studios of Arda Recorders, in Porto, between the power-jazz trio Troll’s Toy —the band responsible for the double LP “Eksterordinare”, presented live in a unique show in collaboration with Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras — and the pianist João Salcedo, member of notable formations such as SMaLL Trio, Luisa Sobral or Os Azeitonas. In the words of writer Rosa Alice Branco:

“Artisan music has no preservatives or other additives: you only taste it once. Sax insists that he is averse to gloves to touch the liquid skin of his mouth. The battery of flavors explodes on the palate, on the fleshy lips of the guitar.”

A flow of transpositions between sound and flavor, this 7th edition by the label based at VIC // Aveiro Arts House is limited to 192 copies and can be ordered from April 14th through the label’s Bandcamp page, with the digital version of the disc also available on the usual online platforms.

“And if a wine can contain hints of wood, there is no doubt that the ‘barley wine’ commissioned by Lovecraft à Boguesa exudes the most unexpected musical notes.”
