A remarkable year for Milhanas

Having turned 22 last month, Milhanas began following a path from a young age that in 2023 received high acclaim from the public and the specialized press.

The artist, who chooses Fausto Bordalo Dias as her biggest influence, added nominations and highlights in the year of the release of her debut album De Sombra a Sombra.

One of the most exciting and promising singers and composers of current Portuguese music, she was nominated for New Artist at the Portuguese Music Play Awards, Best Song of the Year and New Artist at the Golden Globes, Best Performance of the Year at the Iberian Awards and eighth best album in the year by the renowned publication Blitz.

Artist’s journey:
The year began with the release of Mais Que Ao Sol em Janeiro”, a single that followed Lamentos and is described by the singer and songwriter as a poem that “tells the imbalance between vassalage and revolt, silence and scream ”, mixing modern interpretations of fado with pop and urban music.

Two months later, she was nominated for New Artist at the Portuguese Music Play Awards in March. At the end of the first quarter comes “Mundo“, a song about times in her life when she placed “only instinct as the main command of my path” and in which she crosses different musical genres to create her own identity.

On May 26th she released the long-awaited album De Sombra a Sombra, accompanied by the single “Eu de Prosa”. The album explores the shadows and laments of Milhanas, who, upon release, said he did not want this work to seem like an “ode to sadness”, but rather “a self-portrait.” “The day I feel happy, I will sing joy with the same truth as I sing sadness,” she added. Born entirely acoustically in collaboration with Rodrigo Correia, it was only later that it took on the electronic and urban guise of the production of AGIR and Jon.

July was marked by the nomination of “Mais Que Ao Sol” for the Golden Globe for Best Song of the Year. In September, it was also nominated for the Revelation Award at the same event. That same month, acoustics of the songs from “De Sombra a Sombra” began, described as the “light side” of the album. Milhanas performs the songs with AGIR, António Zambujo, Luísa Sobral, Ricardo Ribeiro and Salvador Sobral, artists who “even without knowing it” lightened their shadows.

On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, in November he released the music video for Roubar Um Corpo. The fifth single from the debut album is a hug to all women who suffer or have suffered abuse and violence. The video made by multi-award-winning filmmaker Pedro Varela premiered at the GQ MOTY Awards Gala, where the artist also performed.

December was one of consecration with “De Sombra a Sombra” being chosen as the eighth-best album of the year by the renowned publication Blitz. Added to this achievement is the nomination for Best Performance of the Year at the Iberian Awards for his concert at the N2 Festival, in Chaves.

Next year, Milhanas promises to continue on her path of ascension, having already been announced on the Primavera Sound Porto poster. More tour dates will join this concert for his album.
