The initiative aims to contribute to the biopsychosocial and spiritual well-being of the elderly population in Portugal, whose situation of isolation and loneliness has worsened with the covid-19 pandemic.
The work team mobilizes the Education Research Center, the Education Students Center and the Masters in Education – specialization in Adult Education and Community Intervention.
The planned socio-educational and community intervention includes four fields: cognitive stimulation, motor stimulation, lifelong education and culture, art and tradition.
There are tips to avoid stress and anxiety or to prevent falls, but you can also discover songs to relax, complete proverbs or letter soups, test your dexterity of movements and make a virtual visit to a museum or monument.
At the weekend, there is a challenge linked to the theme of the previous days. The project seeks to contemplate the aspects considered essential to successful aging.
The initiative is being disseminated to residential structures for the elderly, day care centers, social centers and senior workshops, to raise awareness among these institutions to involve their technicians and users in the proposed activities, to share contents of the “Aproximar Network” and the promote info-inclusion.
At the same time, the project team prepares strategies to raise awareness among family members of the elderly. This project was born after an appeal by the Rector of UMinho for its community to create platforms to support society before the covid-19.
