University of Coimbra and National Road Safety Authority establish partnership

The University of Coimbra (UC) will develop actions and scientific research projects, in the areas of prevention and road safety, traffic inspection and road law, with the aim of assisting the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR) in the performance of your mission.

In this sense, a collaboration protocol between the two institutions has just been established. With a duration of four years, the protocol also aims at the development of decision support tools in the ANSR’s fields of action, as well as the elaboration of program agreements for the realization of projects, training actions, advisory services and the provision of technical and specialized support.

Within the scope of the partnership signed, the UC will promote in doctorates, masters or degrees, several studies that will help ANSR to pursue its Visão Zero 2030, strategy, in other words, the University of Coimbra intends to «use all its knowledge to contribute to combating road accidents, in order to reduce the number of road accidents, fatalities, serious injuries and light injuries that occur on the national road network», says professor Adelino Ferreira, from the Department of Civil Engineering of the Faculty of Science and Technology from the University of Coimbra (FCTUC), which, together with Nuno Mendonça, coordinator of the Special UC Business Project, represents the UC in the dynamization, planning, management and implementation of the protocol now signed.
