Universidade Portucalense invests in online education but also guarantees face-to-face classes.

In addition to this new method, Universidade Portucalense launches two new courses and a new master’s degree

The Universidade Portucalense (UPT) announced today, in the middle of its return to school, its strong commitment to online education in the wake of the pandemic period that still plagues the world, strengthening the technological means available and promoting the development of digital skills, new policies promoting teacher training, and taking advantage of the extensive facilities to optimize the distribution of students.

Making clear the absolute relevance of the presence in the human relations and in the humanist and global formation of the students, Sebastião Feyo de Azevedo, Dean of the University, advanced that the UPT will not fail to guarantee the presence activity, on campus, in all the curricular units.

In this first semester, UPT will work on an important pedagogical evolution, for an ‘education without borders and without walls’. “We will have hybrid learning models on campus and online that guarantee the important contributions of classroom teaching, and that, however, add a dimension that makes them more interesting and more effective than classic teaching models“, guarantees the Rector of UPT.

The University argues that the widespread use of collaborative learning methods and tools, available today, strengthens students’ self-learning capacity and extends the reach of higher education to more audiences.

Adding that this is a pedagogical course that the leading academic institutions were already, are and will continue to develop, Sebastião Feyo de Azevedo also says that: “as we did with great rigor last semester, the evaluation components will be in person, what we consider to be, taking into account the technological means currently available, a necessary condition to ensure equity and reliability of educational processes”.

Despite the pandemic, the Rector argues that the past semester was indeed a time of the exception, of emergency, with all online distance learning, ensuring that the experience was indeed a source of great teachings and inspiration for the future.

But we must not relate this condition to the causes of pedagogical evolution, as it is true that the distance work practices of the past semester have reinforced and made this course clearer“, he concludes.

It should also be remembered that, with all the adversities, the UPT is committed to growth and offering solutions for its students. In this academic year, two new undergraduate courses, Computer Engineering and Marketing, as well as a new master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy were launched, reinforcing the vacancies for undergraduate degrees with those of foreign students.

The Universidade Portucalense Infante D. Henrique (UPT) is a cooperative higher education institution that started its activity in 1986.

The UPT operates exclusively in the city of Porto, at the Asprela University campus, with Teaching and Research in the following areas: Diplomacy, Law, Economics, Management, Marketing, Informatics, Psychology, Education, Tourism and Hospitality, Heritage and Culture, and International Relations.
