The “Universo Dalí” exhibition is on display at WOW, the cultural quarter of Vila Nova de Gaia. It opened at the Atkinson Museum on June 19 and has received around seven thousand visitors. Now, the exhibition has an offer aimed at young audiences, with a summer studio specially developed for little ones.

The life and work of one of the most emblematic artists of the 20th century paraded in an unusual exhibition that reveals some surprising details: this is how we can summarize the “Universo Dalí” exhibition. This is the latest exhibition at WOW, opening at the Atkinson Museum on June 19.

Until October 31st, it is possible to discover Dalí differently, on a new route created especially for WOW. Through drawings, sketches, paintings, sculptures and commercial and advertising works, the visitor “navigates” through the artist’s origins in painting, his change to surrealism, the American dream he lived, his foray into advertising, the reinterpretation of the famous Caprichos by Goya, the animation of a Walt Disney film and even “his secret conversion to Catholicism and the connection with Fátima and Portugal, which are probably the most fascinating and curious detail of the exhibition”, culminates Andreia Esteves, curator and responsible for the Atkinson Museum.

In total, there are more than 200 pieces linked to this global, irreverent and iconic personality, to discover in the year in which the centenary of Surrealism is celebrated. Around seven thousand visitors have already “immersed themselves” in the “Dalí Universe”, an exhibition that will run until October 31st and can be visited daily, from 10 am to 7 pm, with tickets priced at €15 (children at half-price).

Children’s workshop for the holidays
“Do you want to be Dalí for a week?” – this is the challenge that the WOW Educational Service presents to children during these holidays. The cultural quarter prepared a weekly program for children and young people, aged 6 to 12.

Children have the opportunity to embark on a creative and surreal journey and parents gain the benefit of keeping children safe and occupied during the holidays. From Monday to Friday, from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm, the youngest children are invited to explore Dalí’s masterpieces, visit the current exhibition at WOW, create their paintings and learn more about his genius and Surrealism. On Saturday, the studio participants invite their families to the Atkinson Museum exhibition and take the guided tour themselves.

This intensive week costs €80 per child and includes admission for one adult on the Saturday of the activity. Registration must be done online and the address for more information is servico.educativo@wow.pt.
