Unsafe Space Garden confirmed at SXSW 2026

The 40th edition of the Texas festival will take place in March 2026

Unsafe Space Garden is among the first confirmed acts for SXSW 2026, whose 40th edition will take place between March 12th and 18th of next year in Austin, the capital of the American state of Texas.

This announcement is a highlight of the internationalization process of the band from Guimarães and follows their participation in festivals and showcases abroad in the last two years, such as the FOCUS Wales Festival in Wales, and the Pro Weekend Festival in Valencia.

South by Southwest has been a stage for concerts, conferences, debates and film screenings since 1987, and a platform where the public and, above all, the artists meet figures from the creative industry, promoters, publishers and agents. A showcase with expanded horizons and a unique opportunity that, for Unsafe Space Garden, represents “a dream come true.” “It’s very exciting to be able to take our music around the world and do what we love,” they say.

In their luggage for the United States, the sextet composed of Nuno Duarte, Alexandra Saldanha, Filipe Louro, José Vale, Diogo Costa, and João Cardita brings a robust and productive body of work begun in 2018 with three full-length albums, as well as songs from their next chapter, promised for next year, from which the first single, “FKNKU,” is already known.

Revealed in October, this disarming new single is a necessary provocation in a time of convenient silences, which both accelerates with guitars and floats in a serene atmosphere protagonized by synthesizers, before exploding again at a contagious speed.

In “FKNKU” (literally read: knife in the ass), Unsafe Space Garden confronts the concept of self-sabotage – a transversal experience for human beings that the group embraces and invites us to resolve together. In this collective process, they also join hands with André Tentugal, author of the video that accompanies the song and which results from a deep partnership between the band and the director.

Before flying to Texas and representing Portugal at SXSW in March 2026, the Guimarães-based band will also perform at the Spanish festival Monkey Week in Puerto de la Santa María (November 20th), and at the Theatro Gil Vicente in Barcelos (December 6th), closing the year playing at home in the BlackBox at CAAA (December 20th).

Always confirm with the concert hall or promoter the access conditions, confirmation of the date and time, ticket sales location, price, and availability.
