Valter Rolo presents “Às Voltas” (In Turns)

the single that kicks off his new journey, released on January 23rd

“Às Voltas” is an intimate portrait of inner movement—the inner turmoil we experience when restlessness takes over, and ideas intersect without a map.

It stems from the sensation of walking in circles between reason and desire, between who we are and who we aspire to be. It’s a song where words guide and the music breathes urbanity, universality, and truth.

This theme arises from a constant search: the desire to escape one’s own web, to imagine other places, to wear a different skin, and return to the sea. It is in the music that this space of liberation is revealed—a territory where the heart opens, the senses awaken, and the world slows down. The words, written by Fernando Gomes dos Santos, precisely translate this inner journey, which gained voice in the sensitive interpretation of Beatriz Nunes, who brought body and emotion to this inner voyage.

The arrangements and orchestrations, by Lino Guerreiro and Valter Rolo – author of “Às Voltas” – give body and depth to this sonic journey, recorded with a string section and enriched by the special participation of Ângelo Freire on the Portuguese guitar, establishing an intense connection to the tradition, emotion, and heritage of fado.

“Às Voltas” anticipates Valter Rolo’s first album, marked by listening, silence, and truth – an album built from the essential and asserting itself as a meeting space between song, identity, and creative freedom.

The recording was supported by the Cultural Fund of the Portuguese Society of Authors.
