  • Storerooms are located next to Pingo Doce at MAR Shopping Algarve and Auchan at MAR Shopping Matosinhos
  • Goods collected will be donated to solidarity institutions in the regions where the centres are located.

Visitors to the MAR Shopping Algarve and MAR Shopping Matosinhos shopping centres can already find two solidarity pantries next to the Pingo Doce supermarket and the Auchan hypermarket, where they can leave essential food items or diapers to help needy families with animal feed and cleaning products for support animal protection institutions. These are some of the most pressing needs of the institutions to which the goods are destined. Helping to fill the pantry of those who need it most is the appeal of the MAR Shopping malls, in the hope that, in this way, the community can get involved in supporting those most in need.

Aware that in both communities there is a significant number of disadvantaged people, many of whom depend on the support and solidarity of local institutions, a scenario that the Covid-19 pandemic has only strengthened, Ingka Centers shopping centres in Portugal launch another initiative that aims not only to support those who need it most but also to enhance the spirit of community.

The NGOs and IPSS that, in the Algarve, will be supported in a first phase are the Portuguese Red Cross, Re-food Almancil, GATO and ARA – Animal Rescue Algarve. In turn, in Matosinhos, the first to benefit from the initiative are Passo Positivo, the Portuguese Red Cross, the Food Bank, the Re-food in Leça da Palmeira, the Association for the Support of People with Cancer, the Midas Association and the DogLiving.

The benefited entities support needy families, but also those who, in a pandemic, have seen their need for intervention increase. These are the cases of the Associação de Apoio a Pessoas com Cancro, whose users, in addition to the disease, often have to deal with financial problems, or the Portuguese Red Cross, which has been helping victims of domestic violence, a scourge that continues to grow in the country. , or people with mental illness. Animal protection institutions are not forgotten, as, with the pandemic, the abandonment of domestic animals also increased, with shelters becoming overcrowded.

Throughout the year, the institutions are being renovated, as the objective is to support as many people with different types of needs as possible.

How to help? Louletano and Pingo Doce have already contributed

To support this cause, visitors to the MAR Shopping Algarve and MAR Shopping Matosinhos centres only need to leave the requested goods on the shelves of their pantries (list attached), which will be forwarded to the institutions according to their needs. Who has already supported was, for example, Louletano who, on December 12, in the game against União Montemor, instead of tickets, appealed to those who would attend the meeting to be accompanied by-products. The result was three shopping carts filled with 275 products. About the game? Louletano won 5-1.

In turn, Pingo Doce is a partner of MAR Shopping Algarve in the Solidarity Despensa, making regular deliveries.

For many of us, it will cost very little to fill these pantries! For those who benefit from this support, the meaning will be much greater.
