Vargas Llosa to publish new novel ‘Tiempos Resus’ in October

The writer Mario Vargas Llosa will publish in October this year the novel “Tiempos resus”, whose title alludes to “a quote from Santa Teresa of Avila,” announced today the Peruvian Nobel in the Book Fair of Madrid.

The writer, whose career also went through journalism and politics, won the 2010 Nobel Prize for Literature, made this announcement at the Pavilion of the Dominican Republic of the Madrid Book Fair.

The Peruvian Nobel acknowledged that the story behind the novel came to him through a Dominican friend since the connection between Vargas Llosa and that country remains as alive as it did in 1975 when he first set foot on the Dominican soil.

“I came to make a documentary with French radio and television, and it was love at first sight. I felt at home, I immediately made good relations with many people,” recalled the author, who also said he was surprised by “freedom with that the Dominicans “talked about the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo.

From the acknowledged fascination of Vargas Llosa for the “most theatrical and exhibitionist” of Latin American dictators, some of his most iconic works appeared, such as “The Festa do Chibo” (2000) and “Pantaleão e as visitaadoras” (1973).

“I have to say that the Dominican friends helped me a lot, without them I would not have been able to write these novels.” I read many Dominican books about the history of the dictatorship, “said the Peruvian author.

Author of more than 40 works, from novel, theater and essay, Mario Vargas Llosa received several prizes and decorations, namely the Cervantes Prize (1994), the Prince of Asturias Award for Letters of Spain (1986) and the Prize for Peace of Authors from Germany, granted at the Frankfurt Book Fair (1997).

He has an honorary doctorate in several universities, including the University of Lisbon in 2014, and was awarded the Medal of the Legion of Honor in 1985 by the French government.
