During the April Festivities, we celebrate, with a great concert, the centenary of the birth of Carlos Paredes, the artist for whom Liberdade and Lisbon were a source of inspiration.
The highlight of the April Festivities will be on the 27th, at 7 pm, at Praça do Município, with the unprecedented music and image show “Variações Sobre Paredes”, which pays homage to the master of interpretation and composition for Portuguese guitar.
With artistic direction by António Miguel Guimarães and musical direction by Pedro Jóia, the show brings together on stage Joana Bagulho on the harpsichord, João Paulo Esteves da Silva on the piano, José Manuel Neto and Bruno Costa on the Portuguese guitar, Pedro Jóia on the classical guitar and will have the special participation of Carlos Manuel Proença and Nuno Botelho on the viola. António Jorge Gonçalves paints and draws live, with the images projected onto a 10 x 6 meter screen.
Carlos Paredes left a unique and timeless mark on Portuguese guitar composition, giving it a prominence it had not yet had. He refined his sound, making it universal, without dissociating it from Portuguese music. Paredes’ exceptionalism has also passionately inspired generations of musicians.
In the month of the Carnation Revolution, Lisbon could not fail to pay tribute to the free-spirited artist who brought music to the people of the city, in the album Verdes Anos, and who fought for Freedom and Democracy throughout his life.
