‘Poetic Scenes’ is the 29-year-old pianist’s third album, published last year by the record label ARS Produktion, in which he recorded repertoire from the Romantic, German and Portuguese periods, exploring the relationship between them.
Among other works, Vasco Dantas performed ‘Cenas Infantis’, by Richard Schumann, and ‘Cenas Portuguesas’, by Vianna da Motta, a German-trained composer, the last student of Liszt, and pieces by other Portuguese composers such as Alexandre Rey Colaço, ‘Fados for Piano’, Óscar da Silva, ‘Fado n.º3’ and Eduardo Burnay, ‘Fado n.º4’.
The CD line-up also includes transcriptions of Schumann’s ‘Lieder’ by Carl Reinecke.
Other Opus Klassik nominees include baritone Gerald Finley, violinist Hillary Hahn and cellist Daniel Müller-Schott.
The announcement of the winners will be made on October 10th, at the ‘Konzerthaus’, in Berlin.
