The longest night of the Lisbon Festival is coming
Lisbon is ready for the most exciting 24 hours of the year. On June 12, 16 couples will celebrate their marriage at the Santo António Weddings, the Marchas will go down the Avenida, and the city will dance at the Arraiais until sunrise.
The party starts with Weddings. The civil ceremony (with five couples) is scheduled for 11 am at the City Hall, and the religious ceremony (with 11 couples) at 2 pm at the Cathedral. These will be moments that will remain in the memory of both the bride and groom and those watching.
After being cheered and applauded by 20 thousand people at the MEO Arena, the Marchas Populares will parade down the Avenida, in the most anticipated spectacle in Lisbon. This year, the Avenida will have decorative lighting in the form of a garland, so that these Marchas will be the most magical of all time.
The parade opens with the Macau Street Dance group, which will perform A Dança da Lanterna do Peixe Dourado, the marches of the Lisbon Schools, A Voz do Operário, dos Mercados and Santa Casa. This is followed by the 20 marches in competition, which, through costumes, music and choreography, portray the various Lisbon neighbourhoods in a unique show.
Another highlight of the festivities is the show by Carminho at the Castelo de São Jorge, on June 15th. Accompanied by André Dias (Portuguese guitar), Flávio Cardoso (fado guitar), Pedro Geraldes (lap steel guitar and electric guitar), Tiago Maia (acoustic bass) and João Pimenta Gomes (mellotron), the fado singer will take to the stage at Praça de Armas for a free show that will immortalize her connection with Lisbon.
This year, between the 14th and 22nd, EuroPride will be held in the city for the first time. Talks, shows, workshops, exhibitions, performances and sports activities in various locations are part of this celebration of LGBTI+ pride.
Our program at the Book Fair continues to liven up Parque Eduardo VII until June 21, with chats, workshops for the whole family, launches of exhibition catalogues and celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the most beloved caricature among the Portuguese: Zé Povinho, by Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro.
