Winners of the IX National Homemade and Craft Beer Contest

The Winners of the IX National Homemade and Craft Beer Contest are already known, which, fortunately, this year was held again without constraints due to the pandemic.

The assessment tests took place in Coimbra and Colares, more specifically at Praxis and HopSin. There were 114 beers in competition in more than 30 brewing styles, which clearly demonstrates the dynamism and vitality of the craft beer sector. Congratulations to all competitors!

The beers were evaluated by a panel of judges made up of brewers, certified judges, sensory analysts and industry experts who selected the four best beers in each category.

And the Winners are:

Ale Category: Neil Page with “Rock the Fort”, a Belgian Dark Strong Ale
Lager Category: Pedro Cunha with “Baltik”, a Baltic Porter
Experimental Category: José Gonçalves with “Ginjanelas”
Berliner Weisse Category: Karlla Gonçalves with “Weisse Futhem Bretts”

As in previous editions, the winning recipes in each category will be passed on to facilities of recognized national brewing brands. Thus, in 2022, consumers will be able to try these beers that will be made by the winners in collaboration with the brands Mean Sardine (Berliner Weisse), Rafeira (Experimental Beer), The Browers Company (Lager) and Barona (Ale).

The National Homemade and Craft Beer Contest, the most important and oldest in the sector at national level, is certified by the Beer Judge Certification Program, a world organization of beer judges, created in 1985, present in more than 50 countries.

The 10th edition of the Contest, taking place at the end of 2022, is already being prepared and many new features are expected to make this brand even more remarkable!
