The Amadora Comics Awards (PBDA) are an initiative of the Amadora City Council, within the scope of Amadora BD, which, since 1990, has distinguished Portuguese and international comic book authors.

In 2022, Amadora BD reaffirms its commitment and mission to invest in authors and comics and for the second consecutive year awards a cash prize of €5,000 to the Best Comic Book by a Portuguese Author. For over 30 years, the Festival has supported the production of works of this literary genre, in a national context and with an international impact.

Created in 1990, Amadora BD is an initiative of the Municipality of Amadora, which aims to promote comics. Organized uninterruptedly since its creation, Amadora BD is the most important comic book festival in Portugal and one of the most acclaimed in Europe.

The annual program brings together authors, publishers, agents and collectors of different nationalities in autograph sessions, exhibitions, launches, workshops and presentations. Within the scope of Amadora BD, the Amadora Comics Awards distinguish, every year, authors and young people who stand out in the comics scene.

The 33rd edition of Amadora BD takes place from October 20th to 30th, 2022 and, with an enlarged area, opens its doors again in 3 different locations in the city: Ski Skate Amadora Park (Central Center), Artur Bual Municipal Gallery and Bedeteca da Amadora – Fernando Piteira Santos Library.

The Portugal-France relationship is the theme of Amadora BD in 2022 and the inspiration for the general scenography of the event which this year brings together 13 exhibitions by national and international authors.4 Rooms (and they are ours!), The Portuguese and Armazém Central are some of the program highlights dedicated to the central theme of Amadora BD 2022, including the exhibition commemorating the 60th anniversary of Spider-Man and an exhibition dedicated to the award-winning work of Filipe Melo and Juan Cavia Balada for Sophie.

In 2022, Amadora BD diversifies its offer and introduces, for the first time, on the Festival grounds, a new area dedicated to gaming. Intending to maintain the essence of the event, which emphasizes and attributes the leading role to comics, Amadora BD thus responds to the challenge of conquering new, younger audiences for the Festival. The new gaming area (200 m2) is located in the Central Nucleus (Sky Skate Amadora Park) and will host numerous initiatives related to comics: cosplay, arcade games, virtual reality, video games, consoles, tournaments, and presentations, among others. Also noteworthy in the Central Nucleus is the expanded shopping area (950 m2) – which will host numerous launches, autograph sessions, presentations and lectures.
