“On the Day of St. Martin, go to the Cellar and Tasting Wine”, so says the people and land of wine traditions, it is imperative the celebration of St. Martin in all the wineries and institutions.
Being one of the celebrations marking the fall, tradition requires the date is commemorated with a “magusto”, roasting chestnuts and drink the new wine, produced with the previous summer harvest, living up to the popular saying “On the Day of St. Martin, Chestnuts, Bread and Wine “.
In Vidigueira Winelands will not be different, and at this time, wineries celebrate São Martinho with events, special programs and new wine launches.

The celebrations of São Martinho are integrated in the event ‘Month of the Wine’, to be held until November 24. The initiative aims to publicize the celebration of the region’s wine traditions through various activities.
The vast program includes a Wine Party, an Initiation Course to Organize Wine Wines and visits. And to celebrate Saint Martin is great, the opening of the wine carvings. All this will be accompanied by a lot of Alentejo singing. The program ends with the Gala ‘Syrah Solidário’, which counts with the presence of Mico da Câmara Pereira and many other surprises.
Quinta do Quetzal
Quinta do Quetzal celebrates São Martinho and European Wine Day, offering its visitors, on November 11, guided tours of the winery with wine tasting. The visits will be in Portuguese and English, between 11:00 and 17:00. Do not require dialling, visitors should just head to the reception and enjoy this unique experience.
Farm House HMR – Herdade do Monte da Ribeira Pousio Alicante Bouschet 2016
Herdade do Monte da Ribeira has just launched the ‘Pousio Alicante Bouschet 2016’, Alicante Bouschet. A wine of intense aroma with red fruits, dense ruby color and velvety touch. It is a full-bodied wine that is drunk with great pleasure.
The ‘Fallow Alicante Bouschet’ barely entered the market and has been awarded by the magazine ‘Wine – Great Escolhas0, the prize’ Press Choice 2018 ‘.
Herdade Grande Tinto Grande Reserva 2014
From the older vineyards of the Herdade Grande, the sour grapes were harvested and in the best state of maturation that gave rise to this great wine. These grapes were harvested and selected by hand with all rigour. The fermentation took place in stainless steel mills, of small dimensions with temperature control in order to preserve all the aromatic elegance. After fermentation, it aged for 12 months in American and French oak barrels.
Launched recently, this wine is composed by the castes Alicante Bouschet, Cabernet Sauvignon and Touriga Nacional. The intense garnet colour combines with a seductive aromatic profile, with delicious notes of ripe fruit, homemade jams, subtly married with a delicious aroma of vanilla and spices. In the mouth, it is powerful and intense. Robust tannins and well-blended acidity finish with a long and elegant finish.
