Volta a Portugal: Short prologue in Setúbal opens 80th edition and decides first leader

A short prologue of 1.8 kilometers in Setubal opens today the 80th edition of the Tour of Portugal by bike, with Spaniard Raul Alarcón (W52-FC Porto), winner in 2017, the last to go to road.

The 1,800-meter course designed in the central zone of Setúbal will crown the first yellow sweater of the 2018 edition, in a counter-clock that should not make significant differences.

Alarcón, who will have the number one number, will be the last of the 131 riders starting, leaving at 17:28, while Portuguese Gonçalo Leaça (LA-Alumínios) will have the honor to open the race, starting at 15:18.

The first online stage is disputed on Thursday, with a link from Alcácer do Sal and Albufeira, in a course of 191.8 kilometers.

The Volta a Portugal, which will have a total of 1,578.9 kilometers, will finish in Fafe on August 12, after 10 stages.
