WAR IS OVER! Inspired by the music of John and Yoko
On December 1st, at 6 PM in the UK, 1 PM in New York, and 11 AM in Los Angeles, the Oscar-winning and Annie Award-winning animated short, “WAR IS OVER! Inspired by the music of John and Yoko,” will premiere worldwide exclusively on John Lennon’s official YouTube channel.
The film is set in an alternate reality of World War I, where, amidst a senseless war, two soldiers from opposing sides engage in a game of chess. A heroic messenger pigeon relays the soldiers’ chess moves across the battlefield as the fighting intensifies. In contrast, neither soldier knows their opponent, as the game and the war reach their final climax. Regardless of who wins the game, the film powerfully illustrates that one thing is certain: there are no winners in war.
Co-written by Sean Ono Lennon and Dave Mullins, a writer, director, and animator with 20 years of experience at Pixar (“Up,” “Soul,” “Incredibles 2,” “Cars 2”), directed by Mullins and produced by Brad Booker (“Iron Giant,” “The Book of Life,” “Rumble”), and produced by Sean Ono Lennon and Yoko Ono Lennon, with a score composed by Thomas Newman, a 15-time Oscar® nominee. WAR IS OVER! is a Lenono Music and ElectroLeague co-production, with animation produced by Peter Jackson’s Wētā FX using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine.
