World Pizza Day celebrated in Lisbon with free Neapolitan pizzas

Next Thursday, the date will be celebrated with acrobatic spectacles of pizza and offer of slices and water solidarity to the public.

Like the first edition, January 17th, the World Pizza Day will be celebrated, an activity declared by UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, honouring the professionals who produce the real Neapolitan pizza. However, this year brings new surprises!

In addition to the offer of hundreds of slices of one of the most emblematic dishes of Italian gastronomy and the exciting acrobatic shows, at the hands of the Portuguese Selection of Pizzaiolos (which was champion in 2017 in Naples), will also be announced the new partnership between Associazione Sapori Italiani, chaired by Michele Mezzero and the Portuguese Red Cross.

The event will begin around 12 o’clock, with the official opening by the President of the Portuguese Red Cross, accompanied by a representative of the Italian Embassy.

On this occasion, “Pizza Solidária” will be presented, a unique pizza that will be available all over the country and where a percentage of sales proceeds revert to the Portuguese Red Cross, namely for the construction of a Continued Care Unit in Gondomar.

Then the three wood-fired ovens will be in action, with the demonstration of “pizzaiuoli” art taken by the World Champion and a member of Associazione Sapori Italiani, António Mezzero, who will give the “winning pizza” to countless public figures.

The rest of the day promises a good disposition with slices of pizza and waters of solidarity of the Portuguese Red Cross, to be distributed free to all who pass through the place until 19.30. Without forgetting, of course, traditional music
Italian.

Michele Mezzero said that this event “will be an acknowledgement of the art and passion of pizzaiolos, as well as an incentive to the constant training and certification of pizzerias”.

“The action started by Associazione Pizzaiuoli Napoletani in Portogallo, with continuity given by Associazione Sapori Italiani, which certifies not only pizzas but also pasta and gelato “. The President expects to receive “around four thousand people“.

A tasty event that will take place in one of the most significant squares in the city!
