WOW proposes a program to celebrate Port wine day
On September 10th, Port Wine Day is celebrated in Portugal. On this date, in 1756, the Marquês de Pombal ordered the creation of what is considered the first demarcated and regulated region in the world: the Douro Wine Region.
To celebrate, WOW has many program options to toast with Porto and get to know better this wine that is the region’s identity.
At WOW, the agenda marking Port Wine Day is packed and starts on Saturday, the 7th. From 3 pm to 7 pm, free tastings take place at Oenophilia, the wine cellar in the cultural quarter. Under the theme “Tradition and culture of our Port wine”, visitors will be able to raise their glasses and celebrate Porto. After the free tastings, anyone who wants to purchase a bottle to take home can enjoy a 10% discount on purchases made throughout the store.
On the 10th, the day on which Port Wine Day is celebrated in Portugal, the Taylor’s tasting room prepares two openings: at 3 pm for a 1994 Vintage (at €32 a glass) and at 5 pm for a 2009 Vintage (at €20 a glass). An excellent opportunity to visit the visitor centre and tasting room of one of the oldest and most historic brands of Port wine.
Still at Taylor’s, the Barão Fladgate restaurant is promoting the Taylor’s Menu on its menu on this date with a 10% discount on the usual €75 cost price. This is a promotion that cannot be combined with other offers.
On the 1828 menu, there is a tasting menu duly harmonized with young Vintage Port wines. At the WOW steakhouse, on any occasion, you can discover that Port wine is not just for an aperitif or to accompany dessert. In this menu, the entire meal is accompanied by Port wine, which makes the experience an act of exploration of the senses and clarification of myths.
Every day of the year, the Chocolate Museum hosts a chocolate and Port wine pairing workshop. It is a sensory workshop that allows participants a unique journey of aromas and flavours, between two delicacies that make the perfect combination.
At the Wine School, there is a daily course on Port wine. This is a 45-minute workshop that includes the tasting of 5 Port wines from 5 different styles and where you learn, in an educational but relaxed way, about the origin of Port wine, how it is produced and what makes it so single.
There are, therefore, many opportunities to taste Porto and celebrate this drink known worldwide which elevates the name of the city and the region on a global scale.
Always confirm with the concert hall or promoter the conditions of access, confirmation of the date or time, ticket place of sale, price, and availability.
