On the 13th, 14th, and 15th of July 2023, Meco will once again be the place in the sun for so many music lovers and festival-goers who yearn for the most authentic music of the moment.
The year 2023 promises to bring the best Super Bock Super Rock ever, with a series of adjustments to the venue that will make everything work together for an unforgettable edition. And the music will live up to the whole experience, with some of the most anticipated concerts of the year. One of them will certainly be the debut of the mythical group Wu-Tang Clan on Portuguese soil. The North American collective performs on July 14th.
WU-TANG CLAN
Considered by many to be the greatest hip-hop group of all time, Wu-Tang Clan has been taking the world by storm since releasing their debut album, “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)”, in 1993. “C.R.E.A.M. ” (Cash Rules Everything Around Me) and “Protect Ya Neck” are two singles that immediately entered the rap canon. Thirty years after their debut, Wu-Tang Clan celebrates these and other songs in a concert that reviews one of the most relevant journeys in hip-hop history. It all started in New York in the early nineties, when RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, and Ol ‘Dirty Bastard got together to form a group whose name was a reference to a martial arts film from the 80s… Part of the magic of this hip-hop has always been in its ability to harmonize so many voices under the same language of the group; and, at the same time, they also left a successful trail in the solo releases of each of the group’s members. Albums like “Wu-Tang Forever” (1997), “The W” (2000) or “Iron Flag” (2001) show how the collective always wanted to be at the forefront of the best hip-hop on a global scale, delivering every beat and each rhyme as if it were the first time in the studio (and also live). The aforementioned references to martial arts movies (and other elements of pop culture), the most surprising samples of funk, soul, and R&B, RZA’s bold productions, fearless and true lyrics – all this contributed to this group to go beyond the music, becoming themselves a reference of the pop culture that they assimilated so well, influencing thousands of young people from different generations over the last thirty years… It is clear that today each Wu-Tang Clan concert is (also) a celebration of the individual and, mainly, collective accomplishments of a group that has its name engraved in the history of music. And it is also in an atmosphere of celebration that they set foot on Portuguese soil for the concert in Meco, on the 14th of July.
