y.azz x b-mywingz are the latest addition to Locomotiva Azul’s artist headline, which is under the duo’s management and agency.
Composed of Mariana Prista (voice, lyrics) and Margarida Adão (composition, production), the duo y.azz x b-mywingz stood out with the victory at the EDP Live Bands 2019, a feat that took them to the stages of the NOS Alive festivals (Lisbon) and Mad Cool (Madrid) in the same year. Their debut album, Cycles (Sony), released in 2021, has captured the attention of the public and critics and reveals a refinement of the duo’s original aesthetic, a perfect cross between R&B, Pop and Hip Hop.
It is the victory at the EDP Live Bands, in 2019, that throws them into the spotlight. Mariana’s voice and stage presence and Margarida’s intricate beats unanimously impress the audience and the jury, and in a truly memorable debut year, they perform on two of the biggest stages in the Iberian Peninsula: NOS Alive, in Portugal, and Mad Cool, in Spain. “With a voice that immediately sticks to the ear and a production that leaves us with our jaws hanging open, they will give us something to talk about”, writes the press.
In 2020, they reveal dis/closure and Did it All Again, singles that enter the playlists of some of the biggest national radio stations and anticipate the record debut, which takes place in May 2021 with Cycles, an album that fuses different soundscapes in a single great work and where we find the influence of The Weeknd, Jorja Smith, Frank Ocean or Mahalia.
But Cycles is more than the sum of his inspirations. y.azz x b-mywingz do not seek to be who they are not. In Mariana’s lyrics and in Mariana’s simultaneously powerful and vulnerable voice, we find this genuineness: the duo sincerely and honestly looks at the problems of life, love, mental health, growth, and it is in the complementarity between these themes and the intricate compositions de Margarida – where a certain Portugueseness always stands out, for example, in Pedro Dias’ Portuguese guitar in dis/closure – which stands out for the unusual quality of the y.azz x b-mywingz project, a duo for whom an abundant future is foreseen.
