Yacht will collect five tons of plastic a day

The millionaire Kjell Inge Røkke, considered by Forbes to be one of the richest men in Norway, is of humble origins and worked as a fisherman.

Owner of a large part of the maritime fleet of the Aker ASA group, he has an estimated fortune of three billion euros. Now, he has decided to dedicate a part of his fortune to the construction of what will be the largest plastic research and removal yacht from the oceans. the ship will collect five tons of plastic a day, and then recycle it.

According to information on the REV Ocean website, the ship should be launched in 2021 and will take researchers from all over the world on board with the aim of gathering more knowledge, developing new sustainable solutions and collecting plastic waste. In his travels, he will be able to take 60 researchers and a crew of 40 technicians to explore the depths of the Oceans.

To get to the plastic, the yacht uses sensors and other cutting-edge equipment, and all the material collected will be recycled. Designed to have very low emissions, the ship consists of laboratories, classrooms, auditoriums and an underwater vehicle.
