Two virtuosos of Brazilian music perform at the 4th. edition of the Orphika Music Cycle, at the Teatro Académico de Gil Vicente (TAGV), in Coimbra, on December 6th, at 9.30 pm. tickets are on sale.
Two of the most important Brazilian musicians, the guitarist Yamandu Costa and the guitarist and mandolinist Armandinho Macêdo, will join on stage, on December 6th, at 9:30 pm, for a concert that is part of the 4th edition of the Orphika Music Cycle. Tickets can be purchased at the TAGV ticket office.
In the line-up of the concert are the themes Bahia e Grêmio and A Nossa, both by Yamandu Costa and Armandinho Macêdo, Apanhei-te Cavaquinho (Ernesto Nazaré), Marcha Turca (Mozart), among others.
The partnership between Yamandu and Armandinho goes back a long way. The musicians have been meeting on stages around the world since 2001. The most recent concert took place this summer of 2022, when the duo performed in Rome.
Fado singer Francisco Costa will perform the first part of the concert accompanied by Ni Ferreirinha (bass), Ricardo J. Dias (accordion/piano), Luís Barroso (Portuguese guitar), Tiago Anjinho (cello), Amadeu Magalhães (popular instruments) and Luis C. Santos (viola).
About Yamandu Costa:
Based in Lisbon, the Brazilian musician Yamandu Costa enchants audiences wherever he goes with his unforgettable performances – solo, accompanied by other musicians or with orchestras – he carries the mark of music from the south of Brazil, and explores different musical genres, forming together with his seven-string guitar a rare symbiosis. Born into a family of musicians, at the age of 6 Yamandu got his first guitar from his father. At the age of 21, the award-winning guitarist and composer received the Visa Instrumental Award, at the time the greatest recognition of Brazilian music that enabled him to release his first solo album. Since then, there have been several albums, solo or in partnerships; numerous concerts in Brazil and abroad; other awards, including the “Latin Grammy”, in 2021, as best instrumental music album with “Toquinho & Yamandu Costa – Bachianinha” (Live at the Rio Montreux Jazz Festival).
About Armandinho Macedo
Son of Osmar, who invented the electric trio together with Dodô, Armandinho Macêdo has been dedicated to music for 58 years. A reference to Carnival in Bahia, the musician uses an instrument he named the Bahian guitar in the 1970s.
Armandinho has already been honoured by Caetano Veloso with the song “Armandinho” and Baden Powell with the song “Um hug no Trio Elétrico” and has already shared the stage or received in his electric trio Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Fafá de Belém, Daniela Mercury, Ivete Sangalo, Carlinhos Brown, Hermeto Pascoal, Arthur Moreira Lima, Yamandú Costa, Stanley Jordan Stanley Clarke, among many others.
With his iconic band “A Cor do Som”, he received the Latin Grammy 2021 in the category of Best Rock or Alternative Music Album.
