Yazz Ahmed performs tomorrow at the PDL Jazz Festival

Yazz Ahmed, distinguished trumpeter and composer of the London jazz scene, performs at the PDL Jazz festival, in Ponta Delgada, tomorrow.

Considered one of the most promising and creative figures in jazz today, Yazz Ahmed brings in his luggage ‘Polyhymnia‘, considered Best Jazz Album of the Year 2020 by the prestigious Jazz FM. In this work, as in its predecessor, ‘La Saboteuse‘ – also Best Jazz Album of the Year (The Wire, 2017) – Yazz Ahmed seeks to blur the lines between electronic sound and jazz, bringing together the sounds of his British heritage- Bahraini described as ‘psychedelic, intoxicating and enticing Arabic jazz‘. Polyhymnia has been causing “shock waves” in the jazz world, deserving Yazz to be included in the list of 25 artists who will define the future of jazz for the renowned Downbeat magazine.

Throughout his career, Yazz Ahmed has enchanted audiences all over the world, passing through the UK, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Tunisia, Algeria, Bahrain, Kuwait, USA, Canada and major festivals such as WOMAD, Love Supreme, NYC Winter Jazz Fest and Pori Jazz. She also has renowned collaborations, having recorded and performed with artists such as Radiohead (in From the Basement), Lee Scratch Perry, Transglobal Underground, Susheela Raman, Tarek Yamani or Amei Zen.

In Ponta Delgada, the trumpeter and songwriter performs in a quartet accompanied by Ralph Wyld on the vibraphone, David Manington on bass and Martin France on drums. In addition to the concert, on the 3rd, Ahmed will teach a trumpet Masterclass aimed at second and seventh grade students at the Ponta Delgada Regional Conservatory.

Yazz Ahmed thus promises to hypnotize the Portuguese public with her music and show why she is considered one of the unavoidable names in the contemporary jazz scene.
