A nine-minute epic anthem marks the return of Yungblud, a world-renowned singer, composer, industry disruptor and innovative.
The 27-year-old artist from Doncaster in the United Kingdom, whose last two albums reached number one in the UK and entered the Top 100 of Billboard, and whose repertoire already accumulated 6,000 million streams worldwide, broke a period of silence on social networks by releasing his most ambitious musical work to this day.
“Hello Heaven, Hello” follows the lineage of the great classic medleys of British rock, in a composition that covers various genre styles, simultaneously evoking the past and the future. Always the countercurrent, Yungblud proves, with this single, to be one of the young composers and most imaginative musicians of today.
Charlie Sarsfield also released the official video for “Hello Heaven, Hello.” The video premiered on MTV Live, MTVU, MTV Biggest Pop, and Paramount’s billboards in Times Square.
About the inspiration behind the song, Yungblud reveals:
“‘Hello Heaven, Hello’ é a declaração de abertura do meu novo álbum. É uma jornada de redescoberta pessoal, um adeus ao passado e à forma como me conheciam ou me percecionavam antes, e um olá ao futuro e ao caminho que estou a seguir. Estabelece o precedente para o que este álbum é: uma aventura a nível sonoro mais ambiciosa do que nunca, uma viagem feita para ser ouvida na sua totalidade, que não se coíbe nem filtra a sua imaginação. Queria que o primeiro momento fosse uma declaração. Dissuadiram-me de lançar uma música de nove minutos e 13 segundos como o meu primeiro regresso depois de um ano, porque, no mundo moderno, isso é visto como um ‘risco’ — mas eu não vejo assim. Para mim, é uma oportunidade. Na minha opinião, o risco é a maior ferramenta de um artista — arriscar tudo em busca da melhor evolução e da melhor arte que se pode criar. Sem risco, não há inovação. Sinto que, pela primeira vez em muito tempo, estou exatamente onde devia estar, a fazer exatamente o que devia estar a fazer — a criar o que quero, a explorar o passado, o presente, o futuro e, mais importante, a mim mesmo. Este álbum parece-me mágico, e é aqui que começa. Onde é que vamos acabar? Vamos descobrir. Sobe para o cavalo. Vamos lá.”
Interestingly, the conception of the song came four years ago—before the production of the acclaimed album Yungblud (2022) and during the last moments of the exhaustive but exciting tour of Weird! (2020). Instead of rejoicing with his new commercial success, the artist (whose real name is Dominic Harrison) was alone in a hotel room in New York, reflecting on the possible creative obstacles ahead. “I felt like I was beginning to repeat myself – I had fallen into my cliché… I was comfortable. In a way, it was good; it meant I had my style. But I always said that if people knew what I was going to do next, that would be my biggest failure.” This aversion to predictability explains your choice for the return: “Hello Heaven, Hello” does not fulfil the traditional format of a single. Instead, it shows the level of composition and musical talent that Yungblud is capable of, honouring the greatest moments of the genre along the way.
