Best national surfers return to Peniche within 10 days
From the 16th to the 18th of September, the best national surfing is back in Peniche, after an absence of eight years, for the Bom Petisco Peniche Pro, which will be the fifth and last stage of the MEO Surf 2021 League, the main surfing competition in Portugal and the one that defines the titles of national champions in the sport.
The famous waves of Peniche will be ready to receive the elite of national surfing within 10 days. This will be the MEO Surf League’s return to the Capital of the Wave after, in 2012, Nic von Rupp and Maria Abecasis won at Supertubos and, in 2013, Frederico Morais and Teresa Bonvalot triumphed at Pico da Mota.
In addition to marking the return of the best national surfers to Peniche, this will also be an opportunity for surfing competitions to return to a stage of excellence in world surfing. This is after the pandemic caused the cancellation of the World Surf League surfing circuit event in the last two years. Bom Petisco Peniche Pro also serves as a launching pad for the return of the world’s elite to Peniche, which should take place in March of next year.
This will also be a special stop for local surfers, especially the younger ones looking for affirmation on the national circuits. Guilherme Fonseca and Carolina Santos depart for Bom Petisco Peniche Pro as one of the best surfers in the region and can take advantage of the home factor to surprise the competition and they won for the first time in the MEO Surf League.
Something that in Guilherme’s case has been close to happening several times and also this year, when he was second in the stage of Figueira da Foz. finish in the final top 3.
