Starting at 9:00 PM, artists Íris, Marisa Liz, Diogo Piçarra, Khiaro, Rafael Sousa, Eduardo Madeira, Viviane, and Drama & Bass will bring life and colour to the stage of Teatro das Figuras in this charitable show.

This year, the public has the opportunity to watch a unique performance and help “I Promise to Live” raise funds for the opening of a new SOS Voice Friend line, which will support people from all over the country starting from the Algarve and create, in partnership with the Algarve Mental Health Association (ASMAL), several community service points with regular and free consultations from psychology professionals. This project will facilitate the early detection of mental illnesses and allow for more effective preventive interventions.

Tickets for this year’s show are on sale at Teatro das Figuras and on the digital platform Bol.

A high-quality show that the president of the Gonçalo Assunção Association – I Promise to Live, Joaquim Terêncio, stated is due to the persistence and dedication of the organization and volunteers, but also because of the sensitivity, generosity, and commitment of the artists towards this cause.

On the other hand, he also believes that the association and the show are beginning to gain space and recognition for the work already done, making it easier for more artists to participate “pro bono” who join “I Promise to Live,” which continues to use culture as a fundamental tool to help noble causes related to inclusion and building a more united, inclusive, and supportive society.

Promote Mental Health with increased awareness and responses in the region

Mental health is a cross-cutting area of work throughout society that, perhaps due to greater sensitivity or increased knowledge of cases of illness, is becoming more discussed and worked on. However, Cristina Terêncio, co-founder of the Association, emphasized that there is still a stigma regarding the subject that must be fought so that those in need do not hold back, know where to go, and ask for help.

Also present at the press conference, Elisabete de Noronha, from ASMAL, emphasized that the speed with which mental health problems are addressed “can make all the difference in a person’s life.” “We need to take care of our mental health every day”, ” just as it is important to support people in situations of fragility,” she reinforced.

The Municipalities of Faro and São Brás de Alportel are once again partners in this initiative

Describing the Association as active and attentive to societal issues, Faro councillor Carlos Baía stated that this network and partnership work is important for advancing and achieving better results in various areas, admitting that there is much to be done in the area of mental health.

Meanwhile, the vice president of the Municipal Chamber of São Brás de Alportel, Marlene Guerreiro, argues that this “is not a cause for others, it is a cause for all of us” which must be addressed daily, especially in promoting mental health and in the prevention and treatment of mental illness.

Recalling that the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel has been working in the area of mental health for more than two decades, Marlene Guerreiro explained that the collaboration in this event is also due to the fact that it is not just about raising funds and has great potential to help break barriers and stigmas in favour of building a more cohesive, united, and healthy society.

It is important to remember that in the first edition, the show raised 24,500.00 euros, which went to the Salvador Association. In 2023, the association was able to raise 26,000.00 euros, which supported users of the Faro branch of the Portuguese Cerebral Palsy Association to acquire essential equipment for their well-being and inclusion.
