Netflix and the Cinema and Audiovisual Institute (ICA) launch an initiative to boost Portuguese audiovisual production

Netflix and the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual (ICA) launch an initiative to boost Portuguese audiovisual production, creating a contest for screenwriters and will award the ten best projects.

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]creenwriters and authors residing in Portugal will be able to send their projects until the 1st of June, a panel of judges, composed of specialists from the sector, will evaluate the proposals and, among the projects presented, the jury will select the ten best works.

For Nuno Artur Silva, Secretary of State for Cinema, Audiovisual and Media: “This is an especially relevant initiative that, through the scriptwriting and the development of ideas by Portuguese authors, represents an important step towards the consolidation of audiovisual fiction and of documentaries in our country”.

Diego Ávalos, vice president of Netflix’s Original Content area, stated: “We are very pleased to be able to collaborate with the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual in an initiative that aims to support and stimulate the great talent of the Portuguese creative community. We firmly believe that great stories are coming and can go anywhere, and we are confident that this contest will open new windows of inspiration and opportunities for creators”.

The jury will announce, through the ICA website, the results until July 30, 2020.
