August 9th to 12th, 2023
Opening of the campsite on August 5th
MEO Sudoeste is back in 2023 for a memorable edition. The 25th edition, which takes place from the 9th to the 12th of August, with the camping opening scheduled for the 5th, once again has the best ingredients for a dream week: friends, the beach, camping, and, of course, the best music. The next confirmed names embody the spirit of the festival: Farruko, Ludmilla, DENNIS, Karetus, and Giulia Be promise to conquer the audience on the MEO Stage of the Festival.
FARRUKO
Farruko is today one of the main names in Latin music worldwide. He was born with the name of Carlos Efren Reyes, in the city of Bayamón, in Puerto Rico. It was only 16 years old that Farruko started publishing her first songs on MySpace. The first single “Sexo Fuera del Planeta” was soon a success, reaching thousands of people. All the buzz caused on the internet caught the attention of the music industry in Puerto Rico and, from then on, Farruko never failed to be requested by businessmen in the field and by national radio stations. The debut album, “El Talento del Bosque”, came out when Farruko was just 18 years old. In addition to his very particular voice, in this first record, the young man also showed all his skills as a composer. From then on, he never stopped singing and creating, in a creative effervescence that would result in several albums: “The Most Powerful Rookie” (2012), “Farruko Presenta: Los Menores” (2014), “Visionary” (2015), “TrapXficante” (2017) “Gangalee” (2019). In all these recordings he has shown himself to be comfortable with both pop and electronics, as well as the reggaeton that he knows so well. In 2021 he was featured in the awarding of the Lo Nuestro awards, one of the most important events in Latin culture, collecting two awards thanks to the song “Si Me Dices Que Sí”, a hit in collaboration with Reik and Camilo. In the following months, there were more successful collaborations: with Myke Tower, in “Oh Mama”, and with El Alfa, in “XOXA”, themes that preceded the edition of “La 167”, Farruko’s last album. This new record features songs as strong as “Pepas”, a theme that already has more than 500 million views on YouTube… Farruko is today a world star within the universe of Latin music and, therefore, is also one of the names most anticipated for the 25th edition of MEO Sudoeste. The Puerto Rican returns to Portugal on June 10 at the MEO Stage.
LUDMILLA
The first black singer in Latin America to reach more than 1 billion streams on Spotify alone – currently, this number exceeds 2 billion -, Ludmilla started singing at the age of 8. In 2014, she signed a contract with Warner Music Brasil and then released the single “Sem Querer”. Since then, she has edited 6 albums. The first was “Today” (2014), and the second “A Danada Sou Eu” (2016) featured Filipe Ret, Jeremih, and Gusttavo Lima, and definitively enshrined it as a reference in Brazilian funk, having been nominated for the Latin Grammy for Best Contemporary Pop Album. The year 2018 is marked by an explosion of success with the singles “Solta a Batida”, “Não Encosta”, “Din Din Din” and “Jogando Sujo”, all reaching the top of the streaming and radio charts. With two tours in Europe, she releases her third album and DVD, “Hello Mundo” (2019), repeating the critical and public success, and featuring appearances by Léo Santana, Jão, Simone & Simaria, among others. In 2020, she successfully surprises the public and critics as a performer on the EP “Numanice”, consisting of six unreleased tracks dedicated to pagode. In November of the same year, she returned to the origins of root funk and released the long-awaited single “Rainha da Favela”, recorded in Rocinha, the largest favela in Brazil. In January 2021, she opens the year in a big way and launches the project “Numanice Ao Vivo”, which in the first week reached great numbers for the genre, with more than 25 million streams on digital platforms. In the second studio album of the project, “Numanice #2”, Ludmilla achieved the feat of, in her debut, having all the songs in the TOP 200 and released in August of that year the live version, “Numanice #2 – Ao Vivo”. Currently, the project, which has an EP, four albums, and three audiovisuals, has more than 1 billion streams. Also in 2020, the singer launched the successful project “Lud Session”, a series of musical encounters, which already has more than 230 million views, in which the artist goes through hits and new songs, accompanied by a band and a guest. . 2022 was a very important year for Ludmilla who, in addition to celebrating ten years of career and moving through the most important projects of her career, was nominated in the “Best International Artist” category at the B.E.T Awards and, recently, the album “Numanice #2 ” received the Latin Grammy in the category “samba/pagode album”. At just 27 years old and already the owner of an unprecedented and dazzling journey, the 25th MEO Sudoeste will welcome her with open arms, on the 10th of August, on the MEO Stage.
DENNIS
Perhaps it would be reductive to say that DENNIS is the biggest funk producer and DJ in Brazil because that title is also his if we expand the scale in world terms. In addition to music, the name DENNIS today is also at the forefront of fashion, lifestyle, and digital communication… He stands out for the way he uses memes in his work and content, showing that online communication is also his thing. Owner of the biggest hits and beats on streaming platforms, his numbers are indeed impressive. Tracks such as “Now it’s all mine” (with Kevinho), “Te Prometo” (with MC Don Juan), or “Só Você” (with MC Don Juan) are fine examples of DENNIS’ strength and popularity. Despite his current overwhelming success, he is far from being a rookie, on the contrary… Both as a radio host and as a producer and DJ, he is part of Funk history, producing some of the greatest hits of the genre. With more than 25 years of career, he is now reaping the fruits of everything he sowed, always with his eyes on the present and the future. The album “DENNIS das Antigas”, released in 2020, already has more than 1 million streams on Spotify. His name is also linked to the way he shows himself live over the internet. DENNIS is considered by many to be the King of Lives, being responsible for the most creative afters and lives on YouTube. And the Portuguese public will have the opportunity to drink in all this contagious energy on the 10th of August, on the MEO Stage at MEO Sudoeste.
KARETUS
Carlos Silva and André Reis are the protagonists of Karetus. Passionate about electronic music, they aim to change that music to what they called “Full Flavor”, an idea that doesn’t connect to styles or rhythms and whose main objective is simply to make and play good music. Owners of an incredible show, mark the public with an unforgettable experience. The customized sets equipped with specialized software are what characterize them the most. With millions of views on Youtube and several hundred thousand followers on social media, Karetus is a phenomenon of popularity. This success is due to themes like “Wall Of Love”, with the participation of the musician Diogo Piçarra, or “Castles in The Sand”, with Agir. In 2018 they made a version of the theme “Bella Ciao” from the series “La Casa de Papel”, and this version conquered the fans of the duo. As already noted, any Karetus concert is unique and unforgettable, and that is also what is expected in the next edition of MEO Suodeste. Karetus bring some friends to the concert scheduled for August 11th, at Palco MEO, which makes this experience even more unmissable.
GIULIA BE
Giulia Be is a multi-instrumental artist, born in Rio de Janeiro. In addition to singing and composing in three languages (Portuguese, English, and Spanish), the singer plays the piano and guitar. At just 23 years old, she has already been nominated for a Latin Grammy and is one of the artists with the most monthly listeners on Spotify, accumulating more than 1 billion streams on digital platforms and YouTube. This success is not limited to Brazil and has already reached the top of sales in other countries, namely Portugal, with truly impressive numbers. With a very striking voice, full of personality and at the same time lightness, the artist is more than just a singer on the rise, she is the biggest revelation of Brazilian pop in the last two years, thanks to the huge success of singles like “ Loose Girl”, “If This Life Were a Movie”, “Unforgettable”, among others. In May 2020, she released her first EP of her career, “Solta”, which has already surpassed 500 million streams on digital platforms and received platinum certification in the country. Another great success was the single “Se Essa Vida Fosse um Filme”, which has more than 65 million streams on the platforms and more than 45 million views on YouTube. In 2022 Giulia Be released her first album. “Disco Voador” brings an alien aesthetic, interplanetary and with several references to numerology and the stars. The influences of tropical music from the 1970s are notorious. On Spotify, the album has already accumulated 68 million plays, thanks to songs like “LOKKO”, “FBI” or “Desficava”. In early 2023, the singer signed an international contract with the label Roc Nation, managed by Jay-Z and responsible for managing the careers of other important artists such as Rihanna and Alicia Keys.
