UNEARTHED, by Pat Loucks, on display at the Ponta Delgada Municipal Culture Center

UNEARTHED”, by Pat Loucks, is on display until October 14 in the Sala do Forno of the Municipal Cultural Center. The exhibition, with free entry, can be visited from Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Saturdays from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

In the exhibition, Pat Loucks presents textiles that “may have come from an archaeological excavation site, subject to the functioning of the soil, plant materials, and micro-organisms”, in line with his interest in “observing and recording changes in shapes and patterns in the landscape. that result from human activity, natural forces or simply the passage of time”.

The works on display, suspended or on the wall, resulting from the use of techniques and materials related to traditional female work, and are also associated with concepts linked to that tradition, such as recycling, reuse or reconfiguration.

As textiles decompose, they become a kind of material history of the landscape and the people who lived there and the functioning of a variety of life forms over time”, the artist also writes in the exhibition’s catalog.

Pat Loucks has a degree in Art, Textiles, from Nova Scotia University of Art and Design in Halifax, Canada. After completing her degree, she worked for several years as a weaver, creating tapestries, clothing and accessories such as blankets and household items. The artist has been dedicated, more recently, to the creation of marks and patterns in fabric with wax, plant materials, dyes, paints, sewing and appliqués.
