Thousands of people at the start of the 37th Baja Portalegre 500
More than 400 competitors, from 20 countries, completed yesterday the first official day of the Baja Portalegre 500, reserved for technical and administrative checks and the official departure ceremony, which brought thousands of people to the centre of Portalegre.
The ACP race promises a new crowd, until next Saturday, on the famous Alentejo trails.
Despite the heavy rains that have marked recent weeks in Alentejo and in several parts of the country, popular support for the Baja Portalegre 500 remains intact. Thousands of fans filled, this Thursday night, the streets around Jardim do Tarro, in the centre of Portalegre, to welcome the more than 400 competitors who will face the competitive route, this Friday and Saturday, distributed across the categories of Cars (112 registered), Motorcycles (94), Quads (34), SSV (79), Promotion / Hobby (59) and Mini Baja (25).
A festive atmosphere, precedes the competitive start of the race, tomorrow morning, in the traditional 3.7 kilometre Prologue, at Herdade das Coutadas. Motorbikes, SSVs and quads start for the Prologue at 7:50 am and cars from 11:00 am. Later, competitors compete in a selective sector of 61.81 km, starting at 10:15 am for motorcycles, SSV and quads, and at 2:30 pm for cars.
Disputed since 1987, the 37th edition of the Baja Portalegre 500 is eligible for the FIA Bajas World Cup and for the main national FPAK and FMP Off-Road Championships.
