Bronze medal for Diogo Ganchinho on the trampolines

The Portuguese gymnast Diogo Ganchinho won today the bronze medal in the trampoline competition of the II European Games in Minsk, bringing to nine the number of medals in Portugal.

Ganchinho totaled 58,660 points, behind Belarussian Uladzislau Hancharou with 60,045, and Mikhail Melnik with 59,435.

In qualifying for the final, Ganchinho had the second best record, yet the Russian shifted his position with him in the final, in which the home athlete was once again the strongest.

Diogo Abreu had a seventh place in qualifying, but lost the final eight, as each country can only find a gymnast.

Together, on Tuesday the two athletes were quarters in the synchronized trampoline competition, failing bronze for a mere 70 cents.

The Portuguese team won nine medals at the II European Games, with a gold medal, through Carlos Nascimento, in the 100 meters, and four silver medals, by the judo team in the mixed race, by the cyclist Nelson Oliveira (counter-clock) and the gymnasts acrobats Bárbara Sequeira, Francisca Maia and Francisca Sampaio Maia, in combined and dynamic exercise.

In the balance test, the gymnasts still obtained a bronze medal, also reached by judoka Telma Monteiro (-57 kg), by the mixed courier of the 4×400 meters (Ricardo dos Santos, Cátia Azevedo, João Coelho, and Rivinilda Mentai) and now by Diogo Hang on the trampolines.
