Monsanto Fest Drive In 2020 with two days of concerts in a new format

Tiago Nacarato, Valete, Bárbara Tinoco, and Murta were some of the names that participated in Monsanto Fest Drive In at IPL on the 24th and 25th of July

Since the beginning of the year, the Portuguese have had their culture “put aside” due to the coronavirus pandemic, and it is now that, little by little, they are seeing theaters, stages, and museums finally being reopened.

Monsanto Fest Drive In did not conform to the pandemic and decided to make the festival in a new format. The production replanned the festival, following the rules of social distancing, and this edition was made on the campus of the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon IPL in a drive-in format where the audience was formed by cars and the applause transformed into car horns and lights.

On the 24th and 25th of July, with the doors opening at 6 pm, tickets, which were sold out, had a unit price of 10€ per person with a maximum of 4 people per car, there was also a food court, in which the requests were made by WhatsApp and delivered directly to the vehicles, ensuring all safety and distance measures taking into account the current pandemic.

The BBV Studio artists were the first to debut the Monsanto Fest 2020 stage at around 8 pm with an energetic performance, followed by the performance of Tay and the Glo Brothers dancers which hyped the audience, taking it another level.

At around 10:45 pm, Valete, one of the biggest national names in rap and hip hop, closed the first day of the festival with a sizzling performance that led the audience wanting more with songs like “Rap Conscient”, “Colete Amarelo” and “Roleta Russa”

On the 25th, Saturday, it was the artist Tiago Nacarato who opened the second day of the festival, accompanied by the musician João Ventura on the piano. The singer from Porto with Brazilian roots gave a spectacular concert where we had the joy to listen to songs like “Tempo”, written with the artist Salvador Sobral, “Areia fina” that has not yet been released, “A Dança” and “Só Me Apetece Dançar”.

Then it was the turn of Bárbara Tinoco together with the musician João Gaspar, who entered with the song “Se O Mundo Acabar”, which Bárbara wrote during the quarantine. The artist also played her latest single “A Fugir de Ser”, a beautiful piano version of the song “Sei Lá” and the song “Carta de Guerra” that she dedicated to her grandparents.

Barbara invited Tiago Nacarato to sing live with her, for the first time, a duet of the song “Passe-Partout”, which both took to the Festival da Canção, and “O Mundo É Um Moinho”.

The festival ended big with Murta, which started around 10:45 pm, with the single “Respeitar”. The Figueira Foz artist showed how much he missed being on stage and gave us “Saudade”.

Murta, who was accompanied by Paulo Araújo on the guitar, Rodrigo Correia on the bass, Pedro Antunes on the drums and Manuel Oliveira on the piano, served us the songs “Porquê”, the beautiful “Luna”, “Her” and the acoustic version of “Duía”, by the Portuguese band Da Weasel.

And so ended another fantastic festival that, despite all the security rules, managed to quench the thirst for culture that the Portuguese have had since the beginning of the year. This event was a joint production of the parish council of Benfica and the board of S. Domingos de Benfica.
