Casino da Póvoa Literary Prize has 11 finalist books

In this edition, the Casino da Póvoa Literary Prize is dedicated to poetry, with 70 works being presented to the competition, from which the jury selected 11, including the writers AM Pires Cabral, Emanuel Madalena, Eucanaã Ferraz, Fernando Guimarães, Filipa Leal , Gilda Nunes Barata, Jorge de Sousa Braga and Rita Taborda Duarte.

Thus, the finalist works “A matéria escura e outros poemas“, by Jorge de Sousa Braga, “Ágora“, by Ana Luísa Amaral, “As Catedrais nascem no mar”, by Gilda Nunes Barata, “As Orelhas de Karenin”, by Rita Taborda Duarte, as well as “Estranhezas“, by Maria Teresa Horta.

Finalists are the works “Frentes de Fogo”, by AM Pires Cabral, “Junto à pedra”, by Fernando Guimarães, “Fósforos e Metal Sobre Imitação de Ser Humano“, by Filipa Leal, “O Coro da Desordem”, by Nuno Júdice, “Retratos com erro”, by Eucanaã Ferraz and “Sob a forma do silêncio”, by Emanuel Madalena.

The finalist works were published by the publishers Assírio & Alvim, Livraria Lello, Abysmo, D. Quixote, Tinta-da-China, Afrontamento and Porto Editora.

The winner of the award will be announced at the opening of the 22nd edition of the meeting of Iberian-speaking writers Correntes d´Escritas, on February 26th.

Last year, the winner of the maximum award for this meeting of writers was the Angolan Pepetela, with the book “Sua Excelência de Corpo Presente”.

This year’s jury consists of Daniel Jonas, Inês Pedrosa, José António Gomes, Luís Caetano and Marta Bernardes.
