Portugal takes ‘Love is on my side’ to Eurovision
65th edition of the Eurovisão Song Contest
‘Love is on my side‘ by The Black Mamba was the song chosen by the Portuguese to represent Portugal on Eurovision, but it was a close call that Carolina Deslandes ‘Por um triz’ was not chosen.
The Black Mamba will represent Portugal, in a song for the first time sung in English, at the Eurovision Festival, which takes place in May in the Netherlands.
The choice was made by the Portuguese, in the contest in the 55th edition of the Portuguese Song Contest, received the largest number of votes from the public, with the final vote of 20 points just like the song by Carolina Deslandes, ‘Por um triz‘.
However, according to the rules, in the event of a tie, the public vote prevails, Carolina Deslandes who won the vote of the national jury, The Black Mamba winning the popular vote.
The Black Mamba, a band formed in 2010 that combines blues, soul and funk create the music that has conquered the Portuguese all over the country.
The 65th edition of the Eurovisão Song Contest brings together music from 41 countries, will take place in different ways, competitors will record performances in their countries, due to the pandemic, with semifinals scheduled for May 18 and 20, and with the final taking place on 22 May.
Portugal has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest since 1964, having not participated in 1970, 2000, 2002, 2013 and 2016. In the years 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2019, Portugal participated but was left behind -finals.
Portugal won the Eurovision Song Contest once in 2017, with ‘Amar aos dois’, performed by Salvador Sobral and composed by Luísa Sobral.
