The national champion, Gonçalo Bandeira, won the first scoring race for the Portuguese Cup in Downhill that took place at the Arimbo track, in São Brás de Alportel last Sunday, the 11th.
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]his was the first European Downhill race this year, with the presence of 150 athletes from 5 nationalities, including the national Downhill champions of Portugal and Spain. Tiago Ladeira, from Miranda Factory Team, was the second-best ranked followed by Briton Brett Wheller from the MCF/XDream/Municipio de S. Brás team.
In the women’s race, first place went to Margarida Bandeira. The performance of Joana Nunes, from Casa do Povo da Abrunheira, guaranteed her second place in the classification with Marta Simões, from CAJ Raposa, closing the podium when reaching third place.
In the junior races, Rui Freitas stood out and reached the first place, followed by b, from the Miranda Bike CC team, and Luís Cunha, from the Bike House DH Team / Guimarães team.
In the cadets category, the first place was awarded to Bernardo Rocha, from the AEBTT Rio/MR team. Print and in the children’s category, the highlight for the rookie Nui Tai, from the Wild pack Algarve Racing team.
Among the veterans stood out the master 30, Rui Cabrita, from the Wildpack Algarve Racing team, the master 40, Paulo Domingues and the master 50, José Salgueiro, from the MCF / CDream / Município de S. Brás team. Wildpack Município de S. Brás won by teams.
It is important to remember that the test carried out in a pandemic context was adapted to comply with the rules of the health authorities for the prevention of contagion by COVID-19.
The scenery and conditions offered by the territory of São Paulo, close to the sea and with open doors to Serra do Caldeirão, are conducive to the practice of Downhill and annually attract hundreds of athletes who have returned to pre-season stages, with a view to a better preparation for international championships.
