The Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos do Porto (STCP) signed a contract for the supply of 100% renewable electricity with the Spanish company Acciona.
The contract ensures the supply of 5,000 megawatts per hour of renewable energy with a guarantee of origin.
With this solution, the road transport operator will avoid the emission of 1,046 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The consumption of this energy source guarantees the reduction of CO2 emissions in the six counties where STCP operates – Porto, Gaia, Gondomar, Maia, Matosinhos and Valongo.
For the Porto municipality, this solution will enable the transport company – now under intermunicipal management – to fulfill its strategy of developing a sustainable mobility system, reducing the ecological footprint in the municipalities where it operates.
Acciona sells 100% renewable energy to more than 500 companies and institutions worldwide. In Portugal, the Spanish company owns several production assets of renewable origin, with more than 166MW of installed power, including wind and solar technologies.
Its portfolio in the national territory consists of 16 wind farms, as well as one of the largest photovoltaic plants in the Iberian Peninsula, the Central Solar da Amareleja.
