Frederico Pedreira wins Eça de Queiroz Foundation Literary Prize

The award of the prize to Frederico Pedreira was unanimously decided by the jury, consisting of Bruno Vieira Amaral, Isabel Lucas, Luísa Mellid-Franco, Manuel Pereira Cardoso and Maria Helena Santana.

“The somnambulist’s lesson” is a romanticized autobiography, in which the author goes back to his childhood, recreating a past based on memories and imagination.

This novel had already been distinguished with the European Union Literature Prize, in May of this year, and the jury was very impressed by the quality of Frederico Pedreira’s writing and by the way in which the author uses fiction as a tool for autobiographical investigation.

The prize has a monetary value of 10 thousand euros and, every two years, it includes a fictional work by a Portuguese author aged 40 years or less.

The objective of this award is to promote and encourage the production of literary works in Portuguese, as well as to honor Eça de Queiroz.

The award ceremony will take place on October 2nd at the headquarters of the Eça de Queiroz Foundation, in Tormes.
