Maria Ana Bobone presents new single “Azar o teu”

About to enter the year that celebrates 30 years of her career, and in which, by the way, many surprises will come to light, the artist who is the greatest representative of fado played on the piano, shows us a more relaxed side of her music with a new single.

“Azar o teu” is a common episode, with several layers of reading, told with simplicity and humour. A good story, which pays homage to the great Herman José and Maria Rueff as ‘Nelo & Idália’ (from the sitcom with the same name).

After more than two years since the release of her last album, Maria Ana Bobone returns to the spotlight with a song that promises to surprise: “This song is quite different from the type of music I usually produce, but it comes from my sense of humour… a side that is light, well-disposed and that upon reaching 30 years of career (and 50 of life) I no longer have the itch to reveal. There are those who say that you are only truly born at 50… let’s do it!” – Plays like a fado singer.

“I was in my car playing and doing second voices for the celebrities of the moment and, without further ado, I started saying these lyrics. My creativity led me at that moment to explore this theme of change, of not staying where you don’t belong. is fine. In this case, a couple in which one of the members ignores the other. But it can adapt to any scenario. The bottom line is that the responsibility for happiness and well-being is always the person’s own and if a situation does not satisfy us, we must listen to each other and adapt.”

A self-confessed fan of Herman José, whose capacity for reinvention continues to surprise the public, she found similarities between the tragic-comic story she was singing, and two of Herman and Maria Rueff’s most iconic characters: ‘Nelo & Idália’.

In the words of the author, “Azar o teu”, “It’s a song that reminds us that we should never settle for an unsatisfactory situation. Just as the characters in ‘Nelo and Idália’ faced comical challenges, we too should embrace life with humour and determination.”

And because it was about humor, she decided to take the tribute further and asked director Miguel Cadilhe (‘Curral de Moinas’, ‘Telerural’), to help her in the endeavour of uniting the stories of “Azar o teu” with that of ‘ Nelo & Idália’. And he, with his talent and vision, brought the idea to fruition perfectly. This culminated in a happy ending for Idália who turns her back and leaves with her neighbour on the first floor. An “opportunity to symbolically thank all the laughter that these two incredible talents brought me since childhood (first Herman, later Maria)”, concludes the author.

Known for her unique and emotional interpretation of fado on the piano, Maria Ana Bobone has already proven her contribution to both the preservation and evolution of traditional fado. The author, performer and instrumentalist, takes fado to the four corners of the world and does not like to put it, nor herself as a performer, in a box.

In the prelude to a year full of milestones and full of celebration – 30 years of career, 50 of life, Mariana Bobone invites everyone to celebrate art and life with her.

“Simplicity is a talent, more laborious than it seems. Humour is a gift. The ability to tell a – good – story in less than three minutes is something that should make us grateful, at a time when so many “songs” in they cause a strange and bitter feeling of emptiness. Bringing together all the aforementioned attributes allows us to recognize, and salute, an artist. Like Maria Ana Bobone.”
