Portugal in 32nd place in the Global Digital Intelligence Index

The Global Digital Intelligence Index results from a partnership between the payments company and The Fletcher School at Tufts University (MA, USA) and demonstrates the state and pace of digital development in 90 economies worldwide.

[dropcap]P[/dropcap]ortugal presents good results in a wide range of domains and is located in the quadrant of countries that enjoy a high state of digital advancement, despite exhibiting a relatively slow pace of development. With regard to global digital development, Portugal’s 32nd place in the ranking is behind countries like Spain (30), Slovenia (29th) and Lithuania (28), but ahead from Italy (40) and Greece (44), in a table led by Singapore, the United States, Hong Kong, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland.

Among the good results pointed out by the authors of the index, Portugal appears in 13th place in the analysis of the mechanisms that guarantee security, privacy, and accountability associated with the ecosystem, ahead of countries like the United States, Australia, and Japan, but behind other European economies such as Denmark, Switzerland, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Austria.

With regard to the experience associated with any friction in access, with infrastructure or interactions, Portugal also stands out in 20th place, ahead of France (21), Austria (23), Spain (26), Italy (28), and Ireland (29).

In terms of attitudes of trust in institutions, the country rises five places, occupying the 15th position, ahead of countries like Ireland (17) or the United Kingdom (26), while in the list that outlines the efforts of governments to take measures that enhance digitalization, Portugal appears in 25th place.

In terms of innovation, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States lead the index, with Ireland standing out among the European economies, in 4th place, ahead of Holland (9), Sweden (11), and Germany (13).

This year’s edition of the index focused on two fundamental components, which are Digital Development and Trust in Digital.

The Fletcher School at Tufts University is a North American school with postgraduate degrees in international relations, whose pedagogy and research are aimed at “identifying solutions to pressing challenges in the world through a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach”.
