Ryanair with 15 new routes in Portugal from October

Ryanair will launch 15 new routes from October, of which four at Lisbon’s airport, eight in Porto and three in Faro, the Irish airline announced today in Lisbon.

[dropcap type=”background”]T[/dropcap]he winter timetable, between October and March 2020, will count with 27 routes of the company in Lisbon, the four new routes to the airports of Bordeaux (France), Budapest (Hungary), Clermont (France) and Memmingen (Germany).

In Porto, the company will have eight new routes – Alicante (Spain), Birmingham (United Kingdom), Bremen (Germany), Brive (France), Budapest (Hungary), Málaga (Spain), Toulouse Treviso (Italy), out of a total of 50 routes.

The airline will now have 24 routes, including three new ones, for the airports of Berlin (Germany), Bremen (Germany) and London Southend (United Kingdom).

At the press conference in Lisbon today, David O’Brien, the company’s chief operating officer, said that the carrier will appeal the decision of the Italian competition authority to fine three million euros by charging consumers hand luggage without including it in the base rate.

“We will appeal and the courts will confirm that our policy is correct,” he said, delaying that the company has improved punctuality since it began charging for carry-on luggage that does not fit under the seat.

David O’Brien also spoke about the new airport of Montijo, to say that while it is not built the company does not grow “as much as it could” and to appeal that it does not take more than three years its operationalization.

The official also warned of the need for an analysis of the price of the toll bridge for Montijo for air passengers, when the airport infrastructure is complementary to the airport in Lisbon.

About 60 million passengers from and to Portugal have been transported by the company since 2003, according to company data.
